In previous twitbird, when you navigate into an item like Home or Mentions, and you step back, the tweets in that item would be all marked as read no matter you really read it or not. It's a little annoying because sometimes you just want to navigate to another item or need launch another application on your phone. We are aware of this problem, and then we implemented this new read/unread mechanism.
This new mechanism will ease the use of twitbird very much.
- it marks tweets that really shows on the screen as read. So you don't need to worry about other tweets that's not on the screen but in the same page. When you navigates out of current item, tweets showed on screen would be marked as read.
- we prevent "quick scroll tweets" from being marked as read. There's a little tip of iPhone, you can touch the status bar (which has Carrier, time and battery info) to scroll to the top of the screen. The scrolling is very fast, and we prevent the scrolled tweets being marked as read if you want to read your new tweets from newest to oldest.
- if you don't like the new mechanism and want to mark all tweets as read, there's a check button on the bottom of the screen, you can use it to mark all tweets as read.
- we have introduced "global read status" feature, this feature would help you recognize some tweets has been marked as read in some items so you don't need to read it again in other items. So you can tap the "first unread" button on the bottom of the screen to filter new tweets from read ones. then you can only read those you haven't read.
If you have some review or idea about this new feature, please leave a comment on this article, thank you.

Good job
When is facebook intergration coming? That would be awesome.
Keep up the good work.
I absolutely HATE your new mechanism. If I'm following a few hundred people I do not ever care if they are marked as read. I will NEVER use this new useless mechanism feature. It is so annoying & makes me want to smash my iPhone & TwitBird app ever day!
You have ruined the best Twitter app you once had with version 2.2.1 ever since you changed your apps have become the WORST Twitter apps ever made. As well you have stolen all your paid users money by removing the ONLY good black dark theme to ever be implimented into a Twitter app. You were number one & now you are garbage!
to the Anonymous above, you can use "mark all as read"
Wow. Way to go for constructive criticism.
Help the developers you moron instead of acting like
a selfish, know it all idiot. You are not the only customer
out there.
Still the best Twitter App. out there!!
Great new feature and a great idea. Keep up the good work. The asshat above is probably a 13 year old little shit nobody. Ignore that fucktard.
I understand what you were trying to do (and why), and I do appreciate the effort you put into this application, but I think I like the previous version better. And as mentioned above, please bring back the dark theme.
Don't be discouraged by asinine commenters who can't express themselves intelligently. You're doing a great job and we all appreciate it.
The selfish know it all idiot is telling others not to be a selfish know it all idiot. I guess it takes one to know one. Thanks twitbird for taking the initiative to better your product.
I think your work improves the app, thank you. I have tried 4-5 Twitter clients for iPhone and twitbird is still the best one by far. Good work !
We want dark theme that you guys TOOK AWAY from us and we also want this crash fix. Please add the dark theme back soon. It's ashame you guys releases the new update WITHOUT it. Not cool guys
other than that "good" work
To the Anonymous above, sorry for the crash, we'll try to fix it, and sorry for the dark theme, it'll be back.
Twitbird Pro user here and I like the new read/unread mechanism. Definitely an improvement over the old, plus you can mark all read if you like the old method.
But I gotta agree with everyone that the dark theme would be nice to have back.
I really like the show update/show all buttons in Mobile RSS. Can the first unread button be made like that so it is a permanent setting?
Great app!
Love the app but not so keen since upgrade! My timeline keeps going back to he most recent of the previously read batch, the gap function is inconsistent and when I mark all read it takes me to the account screen - when I come back all the tweets have disappeared! I have to reload ALL and then scroll to top to refresh them. Hitting the status bar just makes the screen go black and take me back to my iPhone homepage.
Any suggestions? I much prefer this app to any others :(
Hi Becca, you can try delete and re download twitbird.
Personally, I would like an option where tweets are not marked as read until you actually click on them. Just because I have a second to quickly browse through them does NOT mean I have stopped and actually READ all the ones I wanted to. This doesn't have to be the norm or anything, just an option for people like me who are anal about reading *every single* tweet they get in full detail.
Yea, I am pretty disappointed with the removal of the dark theme...that's really one of the features I loved about the app
The read model is very nice and was a major factor in my choosing TwitBird as my iphone client. However, it has a problem with lists. You should make it so that reading a tweet from one list marks it as read in both the Home area and any other lists the tweet appears in.
Is there a way that twitbird be aware of the read comments by other means? (ie: like twitter.com or other desktop twitter reader)
Hi Hector, unfortunately there's no way to do so, because twitter.com does not provide a read/unread status, so we have no sources to share and to get this information with other cilents. But if twitter.com has developed such feature and make it open to clients like twitbird, we will do it.
