Over the last 10 days, we feel like we've aged a few years. If you aren't a Twitbird user or don't know what I'm talking about, let me explain.
On December 2nd a latent bug deep within Twitbird manifested itself. As we scrambled to figure out why thousands of Twitbird users were simultaneously experiencing issues, many possibilities went through our minds. In the end, it turns out that the bug - which users associated with a "User not logged in or blocked" notification - was due to a shortsighted line of code in the app, relating specifically to the unique identification number associated with each tweet that passes through the entire Twitter network (so far there are many billions of them).
We worked around the clock for a day to identify and remedy the issue, but found that the fix required submitting a new version to the App Store. And although we submitted the new version within a day, we've been sitting on our hands for the last 12 days (and counting) while Apple reviews and approves Twitbird for public release.
A key part of this message is to tell you, our users, that we are not stopping development of Twitbird. We have quality features and improvements that we've been developing for months and are anxious to release, despite this significant speed bump. We fully realize the inconvenience that this has created and feel deep regret for not catching this sooner.
Look for this update to land in the App Store any day now. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for this; it clears a lot up and is helpful to know- I look forward to the update!
ReplyDeletefinally... it really was a pain in te ass
ReplyDeleteI must confess that I became more and more annoyed about this bug! I really love TwitBird, but every day I started to tweed I was stuck in this not logged in, can't tweed, can't retweed bug ... always AFTER I wrote the whole sentence! Never do that again ... Please!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this message. Letting your customers in on what's going on is as important as having a great product. Thanks! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHey guys! TwitBird is a great app, and well on its way to becoming the best Twitter client for iPhone!
ReplyDeleteTo be completely honest though, I'm completely torn between Echofon Pro and Twitbird Pro. I have both, but need to decide which one I'll be using for good.
TwitBird Pro has a lot more features, including tweeting music, which is important to me.
However, there are two things I can't give up in Echofon Pro:
1. The very minimal and clean UI (rather than the bubble and box views in Twirdird), and
2. The way Echofon pastes the entire tweet as a caption to any photo uploaded to Flickr.
I would love for there to be an option to switch to a clean minimal view like the ones in Echofon and UberTwitter, and to be able to have my tweet as a caption for Flickr photos.
If these two issues are addressed, I will definitely use TwitBird Pro exclusively and never look back!
Thank you guys, I know you won't let me down!
We will take every measure to ensure that nothing like that happens again. Ever.
ReplyDeleteYour support means the world to us and we promise we won't take it for granted. We have some special things in store that we'll announce very soon.
Thanks for your detailed feedback. We love hearing from users about how we can improve Twitbird and we read each and every email and tweet that references us. If anyone ever wants to reach us directly, don't hesitate to email us at service@nibirutech.com
ReplyDeleteThnx fot this note, but I do have to say: It is a bit late! We've been complaining since dec 2nd and this is the first communication that makes sence. You should have got in contact with your users much sonner.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope Apple approves soon.

@Hermaniak
ReplyDeleteIt is late. There have recently been major changes within the development team over the last few weeks. I won't get into the details but we have renewed our dedication to Twitbird.
Dec 2nd? that doesn't seem too bad to me. I'm being patient because Twitbird is the Twitter app for me. Looking forward to being able to use it again, thanks!!
ReplyDeleteTwitbird Free was approved today and the update is available! For reasons unknown, Apple has decided to prolong the review period for the Pre and Pro versions of Twitbird. :shakes fist at Apple:
ReplyDeleteHopefully it won't be long.
I read "major changes to development team", and "renewed our dedication to Twitbird". Sounds like you had to let go of some useless employees. Is this why it's so buggy? The corporate thing to do is blame it on Apple, right? Sitting on your hands? You guys have some major changes still on the horizon, I think.
